For all of the talk about Labour and its internal politics, we hadn't had any data on the all important party membership. Yesterday we got some, thanks to a new poll of the Labour membership by Ian Warren at Election Data. The key points are that there's been a substantial decline in Jeremy Corbyn's approval ratings among members, but they remain net positive (+17 vs +55 last year). However 41 per cent blame the leader for the Copeland defeat and by a margin of 51-46 they think he should stand down before the next election.

And finally a couple of updates on Manchester Gorton – local media are reporting a rather bloody Labour selection battle, however the Lib Dems already have a candidate in place, Jackie Pearcey, who was previously a councillor. She also has a PhD in nuclear physics, though I’m quite sure the Lib Dems aren’t trolling Labour over a certain other recent by-election…
